New Jersey the DG connection June 17, 2012

In 1979 Sal Zeuner left Thruster and picked up a ride from DG. He and his bike shop Pedaler’s East were able to get quite a few riders hooked up with support deals. I’m not sure if his younger sister Jenny was Full factory or Support her entire stay with DG. Also Mike Raines and Kevin Kozak I believe got their rides thru Pedaler’s East. If I can ever find a blank blue and white jersey like they used, I will get a Pedaler’s East jersey made. Another little ripper I had forgotten about till he sent me a email with some pictures was Joey Burke. But I remembered his name instantly as a one of the mega fast mini racers.

What I didn’t know till now is he is a cousin of the Zeuner’s. Joey still has a couple of his mini DG’s left and hiopefully when he gets them restored he will shoot me pictures of them to post. Maybe more shots of himself or some of the other South Jersey DG riders. I think this picture is from 1981. 1980 was the first year Vineland went ABA, so I dont see how he could’ve gotten 16 or the rider behind him a number in the 20′s. I dont see any letters to indicate they were racing NBL.

I dont have end of year points for 1981 but as of November Joey was firmly in #6 place with only Mikey Mayes any chance of passing him in points. So Joey probably finished 1981 N.Jer-3 #6.

(If anyone has the end of year points Im dying to see them. I was #15 in Penn-1 as of points ending November, but to this day, I don’t know where I finished the year. It’s the only year I don’t know my 20 inch number.)

1978 DG releases first complete bike December 7, 2010

DG releases its first complete bike. They missed the mark with this one though. MX 60 wheels were heavy and not racing wheels.  Perhaps they fealt the Super Pro kits were for hardcore racers and they wanted a entry level Thrasher. But this probably hurt DG’s image some.  Can you imagine you first races on a tank like this? Especially for the smaller racers.

This appeared in the April 1978 issue of “Bicycle Motocross Action”. It points out the new Super Pro comes with a Stronglight headset and bottom bracket. It also is the first DG with a welded on seat clamp. Available in two sizes the regular (Pro) Super Pro and Super Pro Jr.

This list was compiled over a couple years by CorvetteJim. With his permission I am reprinting it. Jim will also be providing more info and pictures for the site as well. Thanks Jim its dedicated collectors and enthusiasts like yourself, that help make this such a fun hobby. I will update this from time to time as he or myself adds new serial numbers. If your DG is not on the list please reply with a comment and all info about your bike you know. Model, Color, Year if you know it etc and of course the serial number.

DG serial # list as of Dec 14, 2010

***Note 1979 and after is in most cases an educated guess. I’m doing as much research as i can and it looks like about Sept 1981 might be the last of the DG.
It’s very difficult to tell were the 79 and 80 break in serial #`s because of so many people installing the wrong head tube sticker because its so hard to find the black/prism sticker.
77,78,and up to Oct 79 have the black/prism head tube sticker. and after Oct 79 and thru 1980 and into the beginning of 1981 has the blue/gold sticker. Late 1981 has the black and gold right side up and up side down logo sticker.

Note the short lived early versions had a cut out DG logo on the large front gusset. Also note the unique rear end of the DG Racer 1.
